The 14 CFR Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study

A Noise Compatibility Study (NCP) is a federally required study intended to promote control of aircraft noise and minimize conflicts between noise generated by traffic in and out of an airport and surrounding land uses.  The NCP must be updated periodically to account for changes in airport operations, aircraft volume and surrounding land uses.  It is common practice for an airport to update its NCP at the same time it is updating its Airport Master Plan.

From now until the summer of 2008, a team of professionals will:

  • Measure current aircraft noise levels
  • Project anticipated future aircraft noise levels
  • Identify current and projected impacts on land uses surrounding the airport
  • Propose measures to reduce the impact of aircraft noise through changes in aircraft operations or airport facilities
  • In undeveloped areas, encourage future land uses that are compatible with aircraft noise, such as agricultural, commercial, or industrial uses
  • In existing residential areas, identify measures to reduce adverse impacts

Public input in the NCP update is needed and welcome at Public Information Meetings and through the “Your Comments” page of this website.
